Finding Better Windows

Signs You Need Window Replacement

Windows are one part of a home's structure that won't last forever. There will come a point where you need to replace the windows with new ones. Here are a few signs that it's time for replacement windows.

Condensation

Do you have windows that are starting to become foggy on the inside? It's a clear indication that the windows have an issue that should be addressed. Condensation will form on a window when the seal has become damaged, which happens when it's stretched or cracked. When that seal wears out, you'll have issues with water getting inside, which will cause condensation to form on the surface of the window.

If you have a white film that has formed on the windows, it means that you have a problem with calcium buildup. This is left on the window after the condensation has evaporated. Ultimately, it's all related to the same issue. Have your windows replaced to stop condensation from forming.

Opening and Closing Issues

Are your home's windows very hard to open? If so, this is caused by rollers and guides that are worn out after years of use. Everyday wear can cause parts to wear down, which makes the window quite a struggle to open or shut. This is not just an inconvenience when trying to get fresh air, but can be considered a fire hazard for those in your home.

There is also a safety concern as well with a worn down window, especially if you have young kids in your home. It's possible that the window will not stay in the open position, causing it to slam down unexpectedly. If a small child's hands are in the path of the window when this happens, it can cause a painful injury to them.

If the window doesn't close all the way, you may have difficulties locking the window. This will become a home security vulnerability since someone can easily break in by entering through a window that is not locked.

Drafts

Windows that are in good shape will provide insulation. You should never feel air coming through the window when it is shut. Not only is this bad for your comfort, but it will increase your energy bills in the summer and the winter. Your HVAC system will work harder than necessary to try to cool or heat your home, which puts more stress on the entire system and cause the need for premature repair.
